It's January.
Time to beat the winter blues with some new accessory cheer! Just in time for Valentine's Day, I managed to get a felt heart design onto a headband. Perfect for showing a little love to your little love! (remember we use the softest 100% wool felt and natural cotton fluff for stuffing- no flimsy felt fuzzies here!) Also an interchangeable headband featuring our simply chic silk flower. If you can't decide on one color- now you can change your flower to suit your style! This of course means we also have the Large Sequin Flower as a separate clip now due to popular demand! ;) Inspired by the hair ties found at Anthropolgie and Sephora- we now carry these simple, chic and colorful elastic bands. They are also softer and wider so they hug hair without the tug and major indents left by regular ponytail elastics. Definately a new fav around here with us big girls! Yes, really...it's that time again. Time to finally get on it and start some holiday shopping. Even if you are like me and shop well under pressure, its time to think about all the teachers, hostesses and other small gifts that creep up quicker.
I have already made a few felt ornaments as an extra add on gift for those people on our list. We are totally digging the felt fuzzy clips as ornaments. So be sure to check them out. Can you handle the cuteness?

After years of being asked and asked, I finally managed to use our adorable Felt Fuzzy designs as Christmas ornaments!
So for the holiday season, not only can you adorn yourself with our super fabulous Felt fuzzies, but you can match your tree too! (I know- a whole 'nother level of crazy!)
But I think you will agree, it makes for some pretty cool handcrafted goodness.

As always, our felt designs are hand cut, hand sewn and crafted using the most beautiful and soft 100% wool felt (heirloom quality). They are carefully stuffed with natural cotton (so no flimsyness here), and secured to a pretty ribbon for hanging!
The felt ornaments are slightly bigger than our original felt hair clips and measure almost 3 inches. (still, not so big) These are made for years of enjoyment.

Did I mention that we also made our Kanzashi flowers (the art of Japaneseinto a poinsettia for the holidays?!
Our poinsettia kanzashi measures almost 3 inches across. Also very pretty on a tree (or matching in your hair). Again, my coordination knows no limits!

Not only do our felt fuzzies look good as ornaments, but they also make mighty fine stocking stuffers!

The Great Uploading of the 2011 Holiday at The Bowtique!

Without further ado, I give you some of our new holiday pieces!
Both the Snowman and Reindeer clips are crafted from imported woven ribbon made using Oeko-Tex Standard.

A slight twist to the starburst kanzashi flower.

I could't stop at solid color flowers, could I?

Also a few new pieces that do not have anything to do with the holidays, but we think they make nice additions to our collection! (and of course some pretty cool gifts for the holidays- I know, I am shameless ;)

We have been enjoying the summertime so much, that it has been hard to get new items up on the website, but I promise I am working on it.

This move was by far the longest one yet...but we managed to settle in a bit and didn't even lose a kid, so kudos to me!

Flowers seem to the all the rage in the trendy world of hair accessories.
I find faux flowers at the big box stores, but I find they are scratchy and don't look as nice as I would like.

I am happy to report, after a very long search, I have finally found some beautiful silk flowers to add to the Bowtique collection.
I have also spent a little more time working on some new items for our tiniest customers-
Introducing our new FlowerBands!
Our flowerbands, flower clips and bitsybands, are perfect for pictures or as newborn gifts, especially with spring well under way.
They also look sweet in a little girl's hair too!

Now that this flower craze has begun, I have a feeling you can expect some new flower items for the summer too!

I know, I know...
it's not even February, and the lady is posting St Patty's Day accessories!

But I am so excited, because for the first time in..well..ever...I am ahead of the game!
I even have some super exciting spring items almost ready to go!

Think Soccer balls, spring chicks and lots and lots of flowers!

But one thing at a time. These new St Patrick items will be up shortly.

Wool Felt vs Acrylic Felt

I am often asked why I choose to use 100% wool felt. The answer is simple:
It's like comparing a wool sweater to an acrylic one.

Wool is the most durable.
It is heirloom quality.
It is tighly woven, thicker and has less fuzz than other felts.

But it is also much more expensive. (like 10x more than acrylic)

As you can see here.
100% wool on the left, 80/20 wool felt blend, acrylic on right

The fibers are most tightly woven in the wool felt and you can actually see the darker table showing through on the acrylic felt.

But there are times that I can not use 100% wool because the colors are limited and it can be a little thick for cutting super fine details...thats when a wool/rayon blend comes in handy. It still has the durability of wool, but it usually comes in more colors, is less thick and easier to find.

Acrylic felt has its place too, don't get me wrong.
This felt is great for crafting. This is what we use with the girls to create fun things.
I usually use it when I am trying new felt designs and don't want to burn through the more expensive wool felts.
Acrylic felt can be readily found at any craft store and even at your local Wal-Marts.
It's cheap (like 29 cents/sheet) and great for use on kid crafts. Some acrylic brands are even made using recycled soda bottles. (so that's good too)

But this, people, is why I prefer to stick to 100% wool for my hair accessory needs.
It's the quality, the durability and the soft, less fuzzy texture that stands the test of time.I hope you see the difference in our wool felt items too!

Yay! It's been a long while, but orders are currently being processed within a week. Yep, 7 days!

It's been a loooong while since I have been more or less caught up to my workload and been able to turn orders around within a week!

I am happy to report that we have successfully (well, with most of us in tact anyway) relocated across the country and are settling into our new surroundings (mostly).

I managed to re-open in mid May and boy were you waiting! I am just getting caught up to the plethora of orders that were placed right away. The wait times should be shorter very soon. (but I thank you for your loyal enthusiasm).

At last!
I have managed to get some new and some of the long-promised designs up on the website!

I seem to be busier than usual for this time of year...so most orders will be a solid 10-14 days to complete right now (plus shipping time).

Meet the Newest Bowtique Boy!

Yes, I said Boy!
The Bowtique household was blessed with a new addiiton on Oct. 19th.
Eric Thomas weighed 8 lbs, 3 oz with a bit of hair. Sadly, he won't be sporting too many Bowtique bows, but he's still a good guinea pig to try some new styles. (shhhhh...don't tell his Dad).

It's been 2 weeks and we are slowly getting back to reality. There is still not too much sleep, so I am slower than usual, but happy to report that I can now remember my name.

This leads to me wonder just when I will re-open The Bowtique.
I think I will re-open the 2nd week of November. I realize this does not leave alot of time to order for Christmas, especially since orders will be take me a good 10-14 days.
For this, I am sorry. I hope to be working at a quicker pace once we are in a good groove, but for now, I must place my attention first on my family.

I will be posting the Christmas order deadline on the front page very soon. So keep your eyes open!

As always- thanks to all for the well wishes and your patience during this time of big transitions for my family.

Our new Sparkle Clip. It looks like someone just poured a whole bunch of glitter all over the clip....but the good news is that the sparkle stays on.
Our new Sparkle clip is made using a unique sparkle ribbon. It is carefully lined onto an alligator clip and completed by our super duper hair grippers.

I look at the last post and can not believe it was been that long since I have posted. Shame on me.

But fear not- I am still here toiling away to bring you more cuteness on a clip.
And without further ado- here are some of our newest additions to The Bowtique, just in time for back to school!

Also not quite new, but very exciting:

We have added new colors to the sequin dragonfly clips. They now come in orange and black! These are limited in numbers right now until we see how popular they will be!

We also have added the choice of lower case or upper case letters for our Monogram Me Felt clips! (by popular demand).

Aaaaaaaand...our Big Girl Felt Clips have been reduced from $8 to $7. So as the cost of living goes up, at least the cost of felt clips goes down!

Gosh, its been awhile since I have posted on here. It seems that daily life has gotten the better of me as I have been busier with the girls, bows, my personal blog, Easter, visitors, and oh yeah, being pregnant.

Yessiree. I suppose my husband and I thought life was just getting too simple, so we decided to add baby #3 to The Bowtique household. Which would also explain my lack of blogging and updating the site.
But the first trimester is over and I slowly seem to be gaining an ounce or two of energy back, so I will do my best to update the blog a little more often.

But until then, here's what you really want...some pictures of the new clips.
As you can see, I have been on a bit of a Felt Fuzzy kick. I am slowly re-designing some old styles (like the ladybug) to give them a fresher new look.

I know, I know I am waaaay behind on the blogging. Truth be told, I have been much busier with bows than I anticipated.
Well that and I have much more on my plate than usual (and that will be clearer to you in a few weeks).
For the past few weeks, I have made alot of bows and clips for a local organization for charity. I am finally finished with that, so now I can focus solely on my current orders again!
Well, current orders and trying to get some new re-designs up.
Yes, its true I have mentioned this before, but they are underway.
A new tiara clip and a couple new spring and easter bows, as well as the first headband to feature some felt pieces. (my 5 year old was the inspiration for this one)

However, right now its important for me to step back and take a breather. I know its time to take a break when I start mess up orders. So to ensure my customers receive my best work and I gain a bit of sanity and some much needed family time, I will be closing The Bowtique from

March 14th - March 22nd
(give or take a few days)

This will still give those who need Easter bows a window of opportunity to get some bows when I return in time for Easter.

Yes, we are still here. I have been much busier than expected for this time of year, which explains my lack of posting!
But rest assured, I am working on some new spring bows and clips.
Coming soon will be some new adorabley sweet bunny ribbon and a pretty spring creamsicle and pink polka dot ribbon.
I have also decided to redesign a few clips. There will soon be a new monkey, plus a few other felt additions that have been in the works for waaaaay too long. I just seem to lack to time to get these new products on the website.

Also just a quick note that I will be taking a break and closing The Bowtique for a week or two towards the end of March. I will post the exact dates as we get closer.

Oh yeah!
Our new super cool adjustable snug headbands are here. But we are just going to call them adjustable headbands for short.
They are so simple, they're brilliant and they stay in so well, you'll wonder why we didn't come up with this sooner!

Our solid color toggle headbands go with everything. They are simple enough for everyday and pretty enough for special occasions. They are made with 5/8 grosgrain ribbon and feature a simpley sweet tuxedo bow.
They can be adjusted to a snug fit using our unique toggle clasp. Very popular with girls of all ages! (just ask a couple of MY friends!)

New Year, new designs!
I seem to be a little on the slower side of things this year...and its only been 10 days into 2009! But here are a few of the new designs to be added whenever I get a spare minute! (hardy har, like I ever get a spare minute). I have been working on a large donation order for an upcoming fund raiser, so things are still pretty hectic around here!
But I will do my best to add new items the next few weeks.

Without further ado, and just in time for Valentine's Day...

and St. Patrick's Day.

But my new favorite is the rainbow clip. Inspired by a customer that wanted a rainbow, I decided this one was too cute not to share.

Hi all!!

I hope everyone enjoyed a safe and happy holiday! As you can tell from my lack of blog entries, I have been Busy (so busy, that I needed a capitol B on busy)!!

But as things at home wind down, I am looking to the new year for new designs!
I am hoping to soon launch a new line of adjustable headbands! These will also be a great choice for the Bowtique Moms too.

I will also be adding some new princess clips to the site this month. These have been in wild demand from my friends. I am guessing that this is the season to visit the happiest place on Earth. I should know, as we recently went to visit our neighbor Mickey.

So, here's a sneak preview of some super adorable clips- Snow White, Cinderella and Tinkerbell.

Okay- that's just a quick update so everyone doesn't think I have disappeared.
I will be working on getting some new designs up within the month or so. Including a new St Patty's bow and some spring sequin clips (also around the corner).

Christmas Orders

Somewhere over the rainbow...

Just want to take a minute to show off a custom Felt Fuzzy. Someone wanted a rainbow for their daughter and I love the way this one turned out (despite the fact that there were some rather intense stitching issues- but I won in the end).

Anyway, this is a perfect example of how fun custom creations can be...a lot of the time, the inspiration comes from a customer asking "what about?" And it's that challenge that I just can not back down from (which is a good thing for business). Its also the same question that was answered with my dear husband and two daughters...but that's another story.

Also, remember to ensure your order arrives in time for Christmas, please order by December 5th. I can not guarantee holiday delivery after this date.

With inspiration from my dearest friend and her need to watch certain foods with her daughters, we came up with a new and stylish way to remind the world not to feed peanuts to those wee ones with allergies.

The best part is, not only is this clip very functional, but also adorably sweet!

...but it also got my thinking..maybe we could create a line of allergy clips. If you have an allergy clip you'd like created just for you, just email me!!

I have been working on a new no slip hair grip for awhile now...and after a unanimous vote of various friends and family, I am thrilled to let the internet know that I finally have an even better no slip grip!
We will be phasing out our recent foam gripper for a new, unbelievably grippy silicone no slip hair grip.

I had a really though time trying to decide which clip to feature for November's clip of the month, but I decided the adorable owl would be perfect, as I am seeing owls everywhere! Owls are the new black you know!
And since it's that time if year, I thought Toys of Tots would be a wonderful foundation to give to.

My new appliques arrived today and I was putting together samples while the girls were both awake! Yes, I was that eager to see what these would look like!

Just in case anyone was wondering, I am still here! Swimming in an ocean of bows! I have been trying to fill a few wholesale orders and trying to keep up with the start of the holiday rush.

Ballerinas and fairies oh my!

I am supposed to be working on a handful of wholesale orders, but was feeling a little more creative late in the wee hours last night.
I will be adding these super cute new ballerina and fairy clips very soon. A favorite around the Bowtique house and a sure to be a favorite with your girly girl.

I am hoping the store orders will be all finished by the end of October so I may concentrate on the holiday rush, which has slowly started. I am hoping to keep orders less than a 2 week wait through the holidays. I will be posting Christmas order deadlines soon.
I have a few more Christmas bows and a bigger Hannukah bow yet to come. As always, I am constantly working on new designs, so you will see them added time to time.

Unless you've been living under a rock, you are probably aware that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. There are pink products everywhere! In our efforts to support a cause near and dear to my heart, I have added our line of "Think Pink" accessories. All the proceeds from these clips will be donated to breast cancer initiatives. A Sneak Peak!

Lookie, lookie! Here's a sneak peak at some new designs that will be added this weekend (I hope). See, you still have plenty of time for holiday items!

I will be adding some new and redesigned Felt clips. This includes my new favorite, the Felt Mitten (awwww!) It's also available in any of our felt colors, so you can match almost anything! And it's embroidered with a sweet beaded snowflake.

Also new to the Felt Fuzzies is the new snowman. No words needed. His picture tells it all.

I am so very excited to have this Minnie ribbon. After so many requests for Disney themed clips, I am thrilled to carry this ribbon....so stinkin' sweet!

...and of course it's available in a bitty bow for the wee Disney fans too!

I also have a few new pieces that just need to be added to the site. Yet to be added to the Felt Fuzzy collection are a holly, a big girl reindeer and a crown.
Also at least one more bow for Hannukah as I have been told that those are very hard to find!
And as I have mentioned before we will have new sequin clippies. These will be another couple weeks as I am still finalizing that order. But I promise that they will be worth the wait!

Yay! I have got to say that I am pretty proud of myself for getting this far with the holiday stuff. The rush is almost upon us. Orders are currently taking about a week, but they can easily take up to 2 weeks a I know people have been making alot of inquiries. Also October is a busy wholesale month for me as I accept very limited orders in November from stores so that I may concentrate on my online orders.
So bare with me and rest assured that I do my best to get your orders to you as fast as I possibly can!
(while allowing myself enough sleep that I can function during the day and still bring you well crafted accessories!)

Felt Flower Bow Clip Holder

Finally! I have added the Felt Flower Bow Holder! This has been in the works for waaaaay to long! This bow holder is stuffed with fluff and and securely attached to coordinating ribbons to give you 3 feet of bow keeping room!
The best thing is you can choose your colors! We are all lovin' the new bow holder here and hope you do too!

There will be new flt bow holders added as soon as I can get some pictures. In the mean time, if you see a felt design that you'd love to have as a bow holder, send me an email and I will see what I can do!

Ooops...I just added one more Halloween felt clip. It's a cute little candy corn, and although it looks good enough to eat, its supposed to be worn as a hair clippy.
This is also available on an alligator clip for the big girls!

Also very soon will be the most adorable hair bow holders ever!! Think felt, flowers and butterflies. Need I say more??

I am also working on getting some sequin designs in stock. I am hoping to have some really spiffy sequin dragonflies as well as a couple new ones for the holidays. I am hoping to have those up in earlier October, as I think they will make perfect stocking stuffers!

So that's about it. More bows and clips here, as well as a few projects in the works for new headbands...but I am still working out the kinks on that one.

Yay! I actually managed to keep a deadline. I said these would be up early this week and they are (I am just as shocked as you)!
I have just added the super adorable new Felt Fuzzies for Fall and some super sweet festive bows for Halloween!
Now bows were my original crafting love, but I have to admit that lately it's the Felt clips that keep me constantly crafting.
Once again, I have discontinued the Big Girl Snappies. Now you can choose either the Little Girl snappies 1 1/4 inch or the Big Girl alligator clips (which will last longer anyway).

The Bowtique is once again open and ready for orders! We enjoyed a nice vacation and were lucky enough to miss Hurricane Fay while we were gone.
We were also lucky enough not to have any major damage.

I will be adding new designs a within the next few days. So keep your eyes open. Halloween designs are not too far behind either! I am trying to get everything organized for the soon-to-be holiday rush. (ack! I can not even believe I am thinking that already).

Also new is the "Clip of the Month". Each month, we will feature a clip that will be offered at a special price. Some months all the proceeds will go towards certain charities and causes. We will post all of the info on the "Clip of the Month" page.

Yay! I finally got some help with a new design for the splash page. I wanted something a little more professional looking (and not so much like the html hack job I attempted). So I hired the help of Ready Set Shoppe!
I absolutely love the new look! It'll be much easier to maintain and all important messages will continue to post at the top of the page, as well as the blog.

It certainly pays to leave it to the professionals!

Well...almost. I still have about a week of pending orders to complete before I am outta here for awhile with the whole fam damily!

This is just a reminder to all that we will be closed August 2nd- August 24th.
And by vacation, I mean a real vacation where I will not have any bow supplies (as promised to my family). I will also have very limited internet access (not sure if this is good or bad yet). So emails will take a few days to answer and I will not be able to fill any requests until our return around August 24th or so.

I am hoping to return with a handful of new designs for fall and some new Felt designs as well (the Felt Fuzzies seem to be taking most of my time lately).

Few new additions

Slowly but surely. Well, okay just slowly. I have had many requests for felt designs on alligator clips, so I am slowly adding those to the Felt Fluffy area. I have just added the adorable hippo and butterfly. Now they are both available on alligator clips. This is exciting for those with a little more hair to tame!
Up next will be a cupcake and a monogram! Yay!

Also just a reminder that I will be taking a real vacation with the whole fam damily in August. So, I will be closing about August 2 or 3rd for 2-3 weeks. This will allow me to finish up all pending orders and hopefully add the ner stuff for fall.

Well, not really, but it sounded good. I have entered the 2008 Designer Chick Contest at Girl Indie. There are some super cool opportunities and I thought, "what the heck". This is my very first contest, so I am just hoping for a few votes to avoid complete and utter humiliation.
