Thankful (with a big ol' discount)

I am thankful for all of my blessings.
My blessings include all those that have supported my Bowtique adventure which started 7 years ago. I never dreamt I would still be doing this today.
But, you keep coming back for my handcrafted goodness (although I like to think its because of my charm) and inspire me to continue this crafty adventure.
To say Thank You to my ever-loyal and supportive customers (many who are now friends), I am offering our biggest discount of 30% storewide through Monday, November 28th.
Thank you from the bottom of my Felt-Fuzzy heart.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Only 32 days left until Christmas!

Yes, really...it's that time again. Time to finally get on it and start some holiday shopping. Even if you are like me and shop well under pressure, its time to think about all the teachers, hostesses and other small gifts that creep up quicker.
I have already made a few felt ornaments as an extra add on gift for those people on our list. We are totally digging the felt fuzzy clips as ornaments. So be sure to check them out. (and you can even go on about how they are eco-friendly, being made with 100% wool felt and stuffed with natural cotton fluff!)

Did I mention the cute new polka dot holiday headbands?

This is also a reminder that if you want to ensure Christmas delivery for sticking stuffers, be sure to place your order by Dec. 7th. I may be able to extend that deadline as we get closer, but it's been taking me 7-10 days to get through the worklist.
Of course the Priority Post option will allow orders through the 10th or so.
I will be sure to change the date if needed on the homepage!

Happy Holiday Shopping everyone!
Only 32 days to Christmas!

Can you handle the cuteness?

After years of being asked and asked, I finally managed to use our adorable Felt Fuzzy designs as Christmas ornaments!
So for the holiday season, not only can you adorn yourself with our super fabulous Felt fuzzies, but you can match your tree too! (I know- a whole 'nother level of crazy!)
But I think you will agree, it makes for some pretty cool handcrafted goodness.

As always, our felt designs are hand cut, hand sewn and crafted using the most beautiful and soft 100% wool felt (heirloom quality). They are carefully stuffed with natural cotton (so no flimsyness here), and secured to a pretty ribbon for hanging!
The felt ornaments are slightly bigger than our original felt hair clips and measure almost 3 inches. (still, not so big) These are made for years of enjoyment.

Did I mention that we also made our Kanzashi flowers (the art of Japaneseinto a poinsettia for the holidays?!
Our poinsettia kanzashi measures almost 3 inches across. Also very pretty on a tree (or matching in your hair). Again, my coordination knows no limits!

Not only do our felt fuzzies look good as ornaments, but they also make mighty fine stocking stuffers!
You're welcome!

It has begun!

The Great Uploading of the 2011 Holiday at The Bowtique!

Without further ado, I give you some of our new holiday pieces!
Both the Snowman and Reindeer clips are crafted from imported woven ribbon made using Oeko-Tex Standard.

A slight twist to the starburst kanzashi flower.

I could't stop at solid color flowers, could I?

Also a few new pieces that do not have anything to do with the holidays, but we think they make nice additions to our collection! (and of course some pretty cool gifts for the holidays- I know, I am shameless ;)
My fav- the Sequin Flower BowHolder, a small twist to our traditional holder.

A new "sugarplum" color added to the Sequin Flower accessories.

The new Satin Flower Puff-

Soft, BowTie Babyband (also available with a monogram!)

Aaaaand, last but not least- a sneaky peaky at what will be up next.
Now you can have some of our most adorable designs made into ornaments! We've been doing it for years and after many requests decided to offer them this year. Yay!
(be sure to keep your eyes open next week).

Whew. Enjoy.

Still time for your Halloweenie!

I have added a couple new items for Halloween.

Of course, there are also everyday items that would be cute in the spirit of orange/black and could also be worn all year!
Like the dragonfly clips-

Or the Make Your Own Felt Headband, but a Halloweenie Design!

Or the Satin Puffs-

Or even the newer Monogrammed Adjustable headband!

And of course, who wouldn't love some adorable dress up antennas that could be used for dress up all year round! And the best part is that you can customize them to coordinate to any costume! A bee, a butterfly, a ladybug...

Still plenty of time to get those orders in for your sweet Halloweenies!

I am now off to try and get the next holiday collection ready to go!

Not a ton of new items, but some new colors for the flowers that have become a fast favorite!

Then everyone is winning!

We're baaaaack!

Just a quick hello to let you know that I did indeed survive the Great Move of 2011 (mostly).
This move was by far the longest one yet...but we managed to settle in a bit and didn't even lose a kid, so kudos to me!
I may add a couple items just for the summer.
I am already thinking ahead to fall and winter. I hope to be getting Fall items up in July and holidays by August.
Orders are currently running up to one week. But to make it worth the while, please enjoy 15% off your order with the code:
(through July)

Happy Summer All!
P.S. Did I mention that I am never moving ever again?

We will be taking a vacation!

Just a heads up that The Bowtique will be closed from June 6th until June 27th (give or take a couple days).
We are once again relocating! The good news is that this will be the last relocation (possibly ever).

I will be available via email, so please give me a quick shout if you need anything, and I will do my best to accomodate (as long as I can find my supplies).
We all know that feeling when you need an unexpected gift or favorite bow is lost.

Happy End of School!!

The Good.
April Showers bring May flowers?
Well, at least they do in the Bowtique world.

Jumpin' on the FlowerBand wagon...

Flowers seem to the all the rage in the trendy world of hair accessories.
I find faux flowers at the big box stores, but I find they are scratchy and don't look as nice as I would like.

I am happy to report, after a very long search, I have finally found some beautiful silk flowers to add to the Bowtique collection.
I have also spent a little more time working on some new items for our tiniest customers-
Introducing our new FlowerBands!
Our flowerbands, flower clips and bitsybands, are perfect for pictures or as newborn gifts, especially with spring well under way.
They also look sweet in a little girl's hair too!

Now that this flower craze has begun, I have a feeling you can expect some new flower items for the summer too!
AFterall, April showers bring May flowers, right?

To receive Easter Orders on time...

please place your order by April 10th.
(or maybe a few days later if you plan on using Priority Post!!)

That is all.

New baby bands are up on the website- I will be mentioning those very soon. We are still trying to come back to reality after a glorious Spring Break vacation!
But it's high on my to-do list!

Another Bowtique Babe's Birthday!

We can thank #1 for starting the whole "bow thing".

We can thank #2 for some of the serisouly cute designs.
Thanks to Ava's strange love for snails, jellyfish, and owls, the words-
"Mom, can you make me..."
helped to come up with some adorable felt fuzzies!

Happy 5th Birthday to my intense, clever and very funny Ava.
There is no other Flava.

And I have extended the 20% off your total with the
HAPPY20 code!

Sunday, March 06, 2011

I think there is a market for these.
Bows for the baby boy curls that Moms just can not get the courage to have cut.
I think I will call them "brows".

Shhhh...do not tell my husband I did this to my poor wee boy.
(although I think he looks awfully cute)
I will be saving this picture for his future girlfriends!
I am sure it'll be used as evidence against me one day when he is in therapy. ;)

In honor of the original Bowtique Babe's birthday..

...almost here...

There has been a slight delay in adding new items to the website.
Our house has been hit hard by all things icky the past week. (I am one of the lucky sickies too and just have not been able to muster the extra time and energy to do some website updating.

But the good news is- it looks like things are finally on the upswing!
I hope to get some items up within the next few days.

Thanks for your patience.
Thanks for the awesomeness of my Z-Pack.

Stay healthy all!

Wool Felt vs Acrylic Felt

I am often asked why I choose to use 100% wool felt. The answer is simple:
It's like comparing a wool sweater to an acrylic one.

Wool is the most durable.
It is heirloom quality.
It is tighly woven, thicker and has less fuzz than other felts.

But it is also much more expensive. (like 10x more than acrylic)

As you can see here.
100% wool on the left, 80/20 wool felt blend, acrylic on right

The fibers are most tightly woven in the wool felt and you can actually see the darker table showing through on the acrylic felt.

But there are times that I can not use 100% wool because the colors are limited and it can be a little thick for cutting super fine details...thats when a wool/rayon blend comes in handy. It still has the durability of wool, but it usually comes in more colors, is less thick and easier to find.

Acrylic felt has its place too, don't get me wrong.
This felt is great for crafting. This is what we use with the girls to create fun things.
I usually use it when I am trying new felt designs and don't want to burn through the more expensive wool felts.
Acrylic felt can be readily found at any craft store and even at your local Wal-Marts.
It's cheap (like 29 cents/sheet) and great for use on kid crafts. Some acrylic brands are even made using recycled soda bottles. (so that's good too)

But this, people, is why I prefer to stick to 100% wool for my hair accessory needs.
It's the quality, the durability and the soft, less fuzzy texture that stands the test of time.
I hope you see the difference in our wool felt items too!

Show a little love...

It's coming just around the corner!
It's Valentine's Day and we have added some new items to send a little love to your little love!

Friday, January 07, 2011

Just a quick note on packages

Just want to let everyone know that my printer is out of order.
This means I have to go INTO the post office (which I really hate to do).
I am keeping the turnaround time for orders about one week because I have been going to the post office about every other day.

Since I am currently not using my postage service, automated shipping notification emails are not going out. If you want a status update or are concerned that something may have gone awry with your order, please email me and I will send the confirmation number so we can find out what is going on! All orders will continue to have delivery confirmation.

Thanks for your patience!!

Happy New Year!

Did you know that 2011 is the year of the rabbit? (which is also my pet sign for the year I was born..but we won't go there).
So in good fun, I re-designed our felt bunny clips and am pretty happy with the adorable results. (and this may be the clip that actualy gets to re-designing some of the older felt fuzzies.)

Simple. Sweet. Oh-so cute!

And to help ring in the New Year, please take 15% off your total order by using the code: NEWYEAR15 upon checkout.
This is a limited time, so enjoy it while it lasts!
